I was just wondering if anyone knows the proper form for a resume in Mexico. I'm trying to get mine ready to send out, and I wasn't sure if it is similar to the American style. thanks!!

American style should be fine. Some employers may ask for a photo and your date of birth if you don't have those on your resume already. Including those two items is not about discrimination...just common practice here.

Love the avatar by the way.

I include a copy of my FM3 and passport as many places ask for that anyway. It`s not required at many places, but then I don`t want to have to make a return trip to hand in additional documentation.

I've had better luck with the Mexican format in Spanish which humorously includes everything back to elementary school. A Mexican friend can help you.

El Gallo, are you saying that the Mexican style of CV or resume goes back to elementary school? What about an old gringo (viejo, anciano) who finished elementary school in 1956? They wouldn't know that my high school was at the time, one of the top ten public schools in the USA. When I tell them I got my BA in 1971, is that good enough?

Estado civil is okay. Divorciado.

Do they want to know what brand of moto I ride?

Oh sure, and don't forget to put your thumbprint on the document to make it look ultra official. Wink

Your replies in this forum are really nasty, Samantha. What is your problem?
Frustrated you can't boss more people? Is that why you teach?

I think you set the stage for that my friend...Wink

Really, there's no need for going back to primary school if you're applying for EFL jobs from abroad in Mexico. Just focus on the job and the relevant experience.

Thank you. That's precisely what set the stage. Humour. I can't believe my comment was weirdly misconstrued as "nasty". Good grief already. I thought the "wink" would give that away.

Anyone who has done much of anything official here in Mexico will relate. As weird as it sounds you have to leave a thumb-print in various places to prove you are you. For credit at a department store (they scan your thumb when you buy),to obtain a driver's license, at the marriage ceremony, to make a police report of even a minor nature, and on it goes. A thumb print makes things official, and of course I was joking about putting it on a resume.

I also believe that a CV highlighting relevant experience and training is the best way to go.
