There's still about a week left to register for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) if you haven't already and if you're interested in it.

OK, that's my good turn for the day. First day of school was today. Man, I mangled my Japanese speech at the opening ceremony. Embarassed

I'm going to eaaaaaaaase into it at Level 4. I've only been in Japan for a month and I took an elementary level Japanese course from April to July in New York City.

I just want to get a feel for the test and walk away with a certificate of some kind this year. Then I can go for Level 3 next year.

I'm having it tough with listening and comprehending right now but in due time I expect that to improve.

Aspara, best of luck to ya. I hope to be at Level 3 and Level 2 someday...someday.

Regards,

Good luck to you Chris! Will be going for 3kyuu myself, but it is impressive you're trying having just started Japanese.

Nice chatting w/ you in Tokyo.

Go to a larger bookstore in a larger city near you (I presume you're in Japan? Check the website that I posted earlier for a list of supplying bookstores--list in kanji). Buy the application packet for 500 yen.

A photo (3 cm x 4 cm?) is needed for the application as well as 5500 yen for the actual registration fee. Fill out the application card. Take it all to the post office and send it delivery-certified mail, for which I paid 290 yen. You pay the 5500 yen to the clerk at the post office. You get some payment certificates, one that you keep and one that you submit to the JLPT folks.

Go for it!

An important change this year - up to last year you could apply late for a 3000 yen fee or something (that`s basically what I did the last two years) but my form says that this year they will NOT be taking any late applications. If anyone reading this is thinking about it, get on and sign up, time`s running out.

If your bookstore doesn`t have any forms left, they should be able to give you a phone number you can ring to get them to send one. It`ll turn up the next day by courier, costs about 1000 yen.

I`m putting my neck down for 2kyu this year, having scraped 3kyu at the second attempt last year. I haven`t got a chance, but I`m setting my aim level at 40%, so at least I have a fighting chance.

Good luck everyone!
