Hello again peoples,

I was wondering if anyone could give me straight-forward advice about getting a CUIL/CUIT number. Is it or is is not possible to get one of these numbers without going through the whole work visa temoporary residence ordeal. I keep reading conflicting information however I did hear that you could get one just by presenting your passport and a 'certificate of entry' or 'permission to enter something something' that I need to get from the consulate. Could anyone help me out by making this a bit clearer? I have totally done my head in trying to figure it all out! And all I want to use the number for is to open a bank account!

Thanks in advance for any help, I really appreciate it Smile

Rae

You need a CDI not a CUIT.

This is what i wrote on another forum on how to get one:

"Firstly, you need your tax number. The tax authorities issue a temporary number called a CDI to non-residents. In order to get this number your need to go to the tax office (AFIP) that corresponds to your address in Buenos Aires. Before going to the tax office, however, you need a police certificate or "certificado/constancia de domicilio" which is used as "proof" that you're living at a certain address. The address could be a hotel or apartment. You need to go to the police station that corresponds to where you're living, show your passport, pay 10 pesos and ask for the certificado. The next morning, a policeman will stop by your hotel/apartment and make sure you're actually living there. Don't worry, they're not interested in your immigration status! With the certificado, take 2 copies of the photo page of your passport and 2 copies of the page with your entry stamp to your corresponding AFIP office and be prepared to wait for a couple of hours.

Once you have this tax number, you're legally able open a bank account and to buy property.

Perhaps someone can correct me here, or let me know if the information that i have received is correct.

I'm trying to get a CUIT number so that i can sub at an international school here in BsA. I need it to file my own receipts. I was told that i could do this under Argentine law, even working with only a tourist visa. I went today to the polizia to get my "certificado de domicilio" which was a breeze - 10 pesos and no hassles. Now i'm hoping that i'm home on monday when they stop by. Next, I've been told to go to AFIP with that documentation, copies of my passport - and I have a print-out of the applicable law regarding CUIT numbers for people working on tourist visas. With that (and some waiting) I should be able to obtain the CUIT, correct?

Once i get it, then i need to figure out how to work the whole receipt situation!

you can't get a CUIT without residency unless you are extremely lucky, you can only get a CDI-a tax number for non-residents. you can't work on a tourist visa. you're a tourist.

I guess I must a lucky one because I was able to get a CUIT number with only my passport.. Some people here told me it's easy to get, others say it's impossible without a DNI..

I then went to two different banks to open an account, and I was refused because I still need a DNI or a traimte.. At AFIP they told me I don't need a CDI with a CUIT..

Go figure(??).. I'm hoping to get some kind of residency document here in the near future, but here you have to expect anything, it's different for every person and it's very confusing..

Good luck with that,
Sabine.
