Why does the job situation suck in Kansai? The other teachers I've met from other parts of the country seem to know this as fact.

well, the economy in Osaka is worse. Tokyo is where the money is.

I think in Osaka people have less money to spend, so learning English is a luxury for some. Tokyo people have more money to spend, so they can afford to go to an English school.
I wish the job situation was better in Kansai. My wife wants to go back to live there.

I'll be working in the Kansai area this December. So I guess you just need to apply to the right places?

both, businesses and individuals. My wife's family works there so I can talk to them so I know how it is.

There are jobs there, but I find that generally pay is less than in Tokyo.
I think in Osaka it is more important to have contacts. You have to pay your dues, meet people, and then try to move on to better paying jobs.

I know that for the company I work for Kansai has the highest renewal rate of employees of anywhere in Japan. People who get a job in kansai tend to spend more time here than those who work in Tokyo.

Personally I really enjoy Kansai. Though all the Kansai-ben sometimes makes learning Japanese a bit more difficult.

keep looking and you'll come across something. I mean there are millions of people living here.
