Hey everyone, I am going to S. Thailand in mid Sept. 13-21st and would like to know where to go? I was thinking of spending a few days in Phuket and about 4 days on Phi Phi island (Is there enough to do there?) How is the nightlife on Phi Phi? My birthday is going be during my time over there and my friends and I were thinking of going to PHI PHI. Or is Phuket a far better party scene? Any info or advice would be great, thanks so much!

Well . . . the night life is probably why about half of the 4 million visitors came here last year - so I would think it is more than adequate for your purposes.

You WILL enjoy yourself, I am sure.

I'm not sure this tidbit is even worth mentioning, but the other day in class I was teaching my intermediate-level students the word 'like' - used as a preposition rather than a verb. One of the questions thrown out for discussion was, "Which place in the world do you think is most like heaven?" One of my Thai students replied, 'Phi Phi.' Never been there myself, but it sounds like a great place to spend a few days. If I could just drag my butt out of Bangkok. Besides, tedkarma owes me a beer. Laughing

Phi phi is beautiful - or at least it was when I visited (2 years before tsunami). But it's remote and small compared to phuket, with a higher percentage of tourists. I never experienced phi phi nightlife; it was a day trip, but here's my best guess. If you just want to tip a few with your buddies at a beautiful location, phi phi is fine. But if you want endless possibilities of bars and girls, Phuket is your choice.
