Having read a recent article in which the leader of the conservatives in a keynote speech told the British people that Britan was broken and was decending into anarchy, I was suddenly reminded why I left the place all those years ago .
Blaming yob cluture (an oxymoron if ever there was one ) and the poor role models that parents set as well as confused signals from schools and previous government strategies in education reforms ,he went on to say that it is the duty of all citizens to turn the tide of violence that is presently sweeping the country .
As this forum is no doubt aware this comes after the killing of an 11 year old boy in Liverpool by another boy who shot him and rode off on a B.M.X bicycle . This is the latest in a series of killings of young people in the U.K where it seems that getting hold of a gun is all too easy these days .
Each day it seems that another columnist from the press knocks another nail in the country's coffin .
I'm sure that someone can find a suitable link that highlights the article which makes quite depressing reading ,although I'm no big fan of the conservatives I thought David Cameron's remarks were pretty much on the mark .
So what do you think ? Is the U.K in trouble ? Are you in a hurry to get back there ?

I got into EFL outside Britain in the 1960's. I made two unsuccesful attempts to go back and live there. Now I have accepted that I will die an exile. The place is unspeakable.

Hey thanks dmb! Ender loves that song, but I don't know all the words. It goes well with his baby-mohawk.

I thought my comment fitted quite well with the tone of the song.

I agree with otterman ollie and dont want to go back to the UK for precisely the reasons he mentions. I also want to "die in exile" as someone else put it. I don't want to sound like an old fuddy duddy but I believe that we have lost the plot with young people in the UK. I worked in a secondary school for one year and vowed never to do so again. The kids have no sense of boundaries or respect for anyone including themselves. Kids scream abuse at you in the street for no reason and I once watched a bunch of kids smash out every window on the top floor of a bus whilst all the adults sat and dıd nothing clearly terrified of getting involved. It just wouldn't happen in Greece or Turkey and thats one reason why I'm not going home if I can possibly help it!
