I'm an Aussie looking for some work in Mexico or Guatemala (other Central American countries are good too) for a couple of months this year. I would like to commit for longer, but have to go back to Aus for study in January. I have a couple of months experience from teaching in Prague, and my CertTESOL. Realistically, am I likely to find some short term work in these countries if I can only commit for a short time? I'm not fussed about living in a hostel, since I suppose living assistance would be out of the question, and I don't expect to make more than living money, I just need a bit of cash to keep me going while I'm there. Also, are some countries or cities better for this than others? Any help you guys can provide would be much appreciated!

Laura

Might depend a lot on which two months...if summer (July and August) you might find a summer program. An alternative might be to teach business English classes, where you are sent out to companies to teach. You'd be restricted to larger cities mostly, but you might be able to piece together enough hours that way to cover your living expenses.

I'm sure you could find something, but you might have to pay for the programme.

Look at www.teachabroad.com or www.volunteerabroad.com

Keep in mind that if you teach short-.time you'll probably be doing so illegally.

I'm sure you could find something in Peru, just don't say that you only want a bit, tell them you want to stay at least six months. You'll make about 5 USd an hour.

Probably also in Mexico (which is in North America BTW) you won't get a legal visa for such a short term. It can take 8 weeks just to get a working visa in some parts of the country. You might be better off looking for something where you would exchange English classes for Spanish classes or room and board. You also might want to look at www.amerispan.org look up their Internships for programs that will provide you with room and board.
This past summer I saw a summer camp advertized in Colombia, but you had to interview for it in England. Sad
