I lived in Henan for two years. I was out in the country about an hour from ZZ. I have to agree, questions about Henan are best answered in a PM. |

I have a feeling the OP has already accepted or rejected the job. Henan is not the most desired place in China to work. A considerable amount Henan's citizens have migrated to other provinces in search of work and better pay. So that has something to say about the province itself. However that said, it would definitely be an experience. |

Teaching at the uni here, and living here is very similar to most places in China. No Shanghai or Beijing. So if you take away the top six or so cities, I would say that henan is pretty representative of the core of China (meaning I can;t compare to Mongolia or Xiamen
Chinese cities can be depressingly similar. Zhengzhou has a lot of trees and parks, air slightly better then Beijing, much worse then Kunming.
Lots of farmers, and through out the country this means the same... low wages
Lots of historic places, like everywhere. Zhengzhou is a train hub, pretty easy to go anywhere.
I guess the only four desired places are Beijing, Shanghai, Yangshuo and Kunming |

Thanks everyone for your advice.
After reading through the posts on working in China, I decided against working there on a long term contract. Low salary was a main issue.
Decided it would be better to tour China at a later date. |

Wow, why is working in Henan only to be discussed by pm? Maybe some kind of top secret stuff?? Exciting! People openly discuss Shanghai and Chengdu.
Some kind of magic field or earthbound Eden? Forest nymphs? Big block Chevys? |

If you are in one province for several years you should consider that Chinese consider it insulting to talk in an open manner the way we talk o this board. I partly agree with them. For instance, I think the way we, in the U.S. flame or political leaders is disgusting, certainly not in accordance with the bible principles of politeness and tolerance and love . or in accordance to Chinese custom... and we do live in China, you know?
This university is a legitimate school, and I will keep the pros and cons, as I see them to those who actually really are interested in possibly working there.
Who would want to work in Guangzhou? Yuk!! |
