Are DISTANCE M.A.'s in TESOL recognized for US community college, university jobs, etc.
I was thinking of a distance program through Australia, but concerned if it would be worthless or even recognized in the U.S. |

I did a distance course at the University of Birmingham and I am now at a community college. I had to have my degree evaluated before I was hired by an outside agency--but that was because it was a non-USA degree not because it was distance.
I think it would be difficult for many colleges and universities in the US to not accept distance because many of them are offering the same style degree these days. How could they offer it as an option to their students and not accept it from other institutions? It is very popular now.

Thanks for the info Sherri, in case I may want to head south to teach English -- does anyone know if online degrees are accepted in Canada? |

Yes, they are. I know a number of people with distance masters degrees who are teaching in post-secondary colleges in Canada.
I have a distance masters from an Australian uni and while I haven't put it to use in Canada yet (still in Japan), am confident it will not hinder my application. Being overseas for a long time will though.
Better yet, instead of asking us, call some schools in Canada you'd like to work at and ask their human resource depts what they think. |

I was in the ESL dept. at a technical college in Calgary for 4 years, +/-. Teachers included at least 6 with distance MAs, most from British universities. |
