I am currently teaching English in South Korea and when I get done I am heading to either Hanoi or Bangkok to get my CELTA. Afterwards, I plan on traveling through Southeast Asia and I am thinking about settling down in Vietnam for a about 6 months to a year depending on my situation. I am wondering if someone can give me some insight into the lifestyle of teaching there compared to Korea.
How does Vietnam to Korea fare in terms of:
shadiness of schools (hagwons are bad )?
money to SAVE?
rent (Korea usually pays for rent but still curious)?
friendliness of locals? easy to make Vietnamese friends?
what do they do for fun usually (Korea they smoke and drink soju together)?
cost of living?
local food?
expat community?
pretty girls?
western comforts?
vacations/national holidays?
how are foreigners viewed by locals?
beers (Korean beer sucks)?
Thanks. |

Well, in all honesty, I don't care so much about Western comforts. I am really looking for a hassle-free, lifestyle close to the beach. "My dream" is to have a good school that I enjoy, play on the beach most of my days off/before/after work, and kick back with a good group or friends both Vietnamese and expat. Saving a little cash wouldn't be too bad either. Am I crazy to strive for this? Does my naive-ness (not a word, i know) shine through in this post? |
