The SIT course is a very sound course, you will learn a lot and it will be very useful. I haven't heard anything about the quality of the trainers who give the class in Oaxaca, but all the trainers go through a fairly tough training program. SIT also has course in Costa Rica and Ecuador. Our very own Justin is one of the trainers in Ecuador. I have met quite a few grads of the program in Costa Rica and all raved about it. I'm not sure how costs measure up between the three.
Oaxaca, of course in amazingly beautiful, though the troubles of last year are not over just "resting" (the APPO has taken my towns Civil Registry office and the two opposing teacher's unions had a confrontation complete with malatov c0cktails yesterday). I think you would be perfectly safe, but you must weigh those considerations, Oaxaca may make the international news again and all your family will be sure you're in grave danger, even if you're not. |

I would argue against TEFL INternational. I think they're mostly a money making organisation, than a teaching one. |

Thanks for the kind billing, MELEE.
I actually kind of know a couple of the trainers you'd be likely to have in Oaxaca, and can say that they are great. In any case, the SIT training process for trainers is awfully demanding and pretty selective; I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone whose been through it, whether or not I knew them.
I've heard that things are settling down a bit in Oaxaca, but who really knows...
best,
Justin |
