I'm starting off as a new teacher with Shane in Taoyuan in mid-October. Is there anyone else who works in Taoyuan, or who has worked in Taoyuan, who could give me some sense of the size of the expat community there? Are there particular bars/pubs or anything else that Americans (or other English speakers) tend to frequent? I'm going to be the only teacher at a brand new branch of Shane and so won't have the built-in camaraderie of other teachers, but would like to find opportunities to meet other EFL teachers in Taoyuan and am not sure how to go about it. |

"rodeo" is western owned bar that serves comfort food. about a five minute walk from the train station. lotsa foreigners in taoyuan. fret not if you don't like them as it is a constantly revolving door: find a mate, take em to the airport, accumulate their stuff. don't be surprised when they show up a year later for another go round. such is the nature of the industry. |
