|
|
I just returned to the U.S. after teaching for six-months at the XiJie Foreign Language School in Yangshuo. While I had an overall positive experience (I adored the students and my fellow teachers), I had a terrible time with the principal, Billy. I lived with him and his family for the first three months during which I was bullied, ignored and (I'm fairly certain) cheated on my electric bill. In addition, Billy attempted to cheat me out of portions of my salary on several occassions, expected me to teach additional classes for no compensation, and cancelled the one week holiday that was promised in my contract without even telling me.
Billy and his three brothers run language schools in Yangshuo. I heard many horror stories about all of them while I was there, but I only wanted to be specific about things I personally experienced. However, I hope that if anyone who reads this has had a negative experience with any of the brothers they will post the details here, so that others will not have to go through what we went through. |

Curious...why did you end up living w/Billy's family?
Did you get along OK with his kids...his wife?
Could you be more specific about being:
*bullied?
*ignored?
*cheated? (Do you think he needs the money???)

Yet...the Title of your thread warns about ALL the brothers.
You asked only for only NEGATIVE posts.

Can you accept the fact that many of us had POSITIVE experiences w/them...especially when compared many other schools/directors elsewhere in China... |

I will keep this brief.
I lived with Billy and his family because those turned out to be the accommodations promised by my contract. I have no complaints about his wife or daughter, but his son was certainly a handful. I even saw him strike two other teachers. Also, Billy and his sister-in-law, the family housekeeper, used their master keys to let themselves into teachers' rooms without permission.
After the first day, Billy never spoke to me again unless it was absolutely necessary, which wasn't often. For example, I missed the teacher orientation because Billy never told me about it. He tried to pay me less than full salary for my first month of work claiming it was a partial month even though he asked me to arrive early and the spring semester began on March 5 because school was still CLOSED for the spring holiday on March 1-4. I don't think he needs the money, but when did that ever stop a greedy person?

I asked for negative posts because I wanted to warn people to be careful before committing to anything. I was far too trusting. Certainly I can accept the fact that someone else had a positive experience. As a matter of fact I'm happy to read it. Feel free to expand upon your positive experience. |
