How much does a basic studio or one-bedroom apartment go for in Taoyuan City? I'll be teaching there starting in mid-October and would like to budget. |

One of Taoyuan's strengths is its affordable rents. I was in a 3 bedroom place in a good building for only 8000 nt per month. Nice places are available for under 10k. At those prices, it may not be worth it to get a cramped little studio (that won't be heck of a lot cheaper anyway). |

I wasn't figuring on a studio. Just I'm one person...didn't seem to make a lot of sense to spend a lot of money on a 3 br when I really only need a one bedroom at most.
I live in New York, so I'm used to dealing with a housing market that is totally out of control. Glad to know things are better in Taoyuan. |

Trouble is, one bedroom apts are rare. Most local people live with their families, so apts are made family sized. Relatively few single people live independently. You usually can get cramped little "taofang" (basically, rooms for rent) or whole three bedroom apt. Seldom much in between. The price difference isn't a whole heck of a lot; might as well go for the bigger one. You can have a roomie to to save money or make rec rooms/ storage out of your spares. |
