Can anyone suggest the best way to locate a reliable used 4 dr car in Oman? I prefer Toyotos and Hondas, but wouldn't limit myself to only those. My budget is around US$3000 to $4000. I am married with a couple little children so need something that's not too cramped. We plan to drive to the beaches and wadis fairly often, but I'm not under the illusion that we'll be doing in major 4-wheeling. Having said that, I have learned that with the right attitude behind the wheel, most any old car can be coaxed to go beyond their 'expected' limits.

Thanks for any tips!

' Best cars' in Muscat in the Wattayah area with all of the other car dealerships, used car lots along the main highway near Azaiba, Lulu, AL Hail ( past Bahja ) , notice boards at the grocery stores, especially in MQ and Al Khuwair and Qurum where the expats live.....other sources like the supplements in the papers are also good.

Personally I would never buy a used car from a lot in any part of the Gulf... especially now in Oman when you don't know how long it was under water.

I would only buy from an individual - preferably a Western expat - and would lease until I found one. There is a good reason why I, as a Western expat female - was always able to sell my car in a day when I left a country.

Sound advice from VS. Honest Ahmed's Used Car Company is best avoided.

Thanks for the tips. I'll seek out the expat cars. We're set to arrive in a few days.

I'd echo what VS said. A friend of mine has found that their car that survived the flood is now worth 1/2 of what they expected....lots of problems as the result of the flood.
