Folks:
I am applying to a University in Saudi Arabia, and have made the interview list, but have not yet been offered a job there, and if the offer from Saudi does not come through, I would be interested in applying to Sultan Qaboos University, but the SQU website does not have e-mail or a place where foreign applicants can contact the human resources department.
Does anyone know what the e-mail is for the person who takes care of employment at SQU? How do you apply to work at SQU?
I would rather apply directly than go through offers with a recruiter.
Thank you.

SQU does not use recruiters... or at least didn't last I heard. And hopefully they learned their lesson after the complete fiasco when they did a few years back.
The website tells you how to apply. You have to mail the papers to them, they don't use a web-based system.
No shortcuts unless you have a friend in the department there who has a bit of wasta in admin.

Ghost, if you have a PhD Degree from a recognized university, then try to apply to this:

Sultan Qaboos University, the National University of the Sultanate of Oman, has the pleasure to invite applicants for the following positions:

2. All candidates would be required to teach language skills courses in addition to their subject area.

Does that mean that non PhD holders have little chance of getting employment at SQU?
I have an M.A., but it is in 'Communication Studies' not T.E.S.L., in addition to a B.A., B.Ed (certified teacher of ESL and French), and University T.E.S.L. Certificate (30 credits). I am currently completing a one year contract for a Ministry of Education College in Korea, as a teacher trainer (www.gifle.go.kr).
Does this mean that it would not be worth going through the application process there at SQU? In Saudi and elsewhere, I was told that my qualifications were adequate. This might not be the case here? I understand that your esteemed friend, Neil McBeath, is on the faculty of SQU, but I don't think he has a PhD, but rather an M.A. in Linguistics.
Thank you.

No. As usual 007 posts something that is irrelevent to 90% of the posters. He has never quite understood that this is a site for TEFL teachers with an MA at best.
Apply to the Language Center. They prefer, but do no require an MA. If you have a BA + CELTA + related Academic experience, you have a decent chance.

Thank you. Does SQU have an e-mail address? I cannot find any on their websites.

You have to send everything by mail. Once you are accepted, you will likely be given an email address of someone who works with new hires to make arrangements. But, obviously they don't feel the need to have someone who spends all of their time answering random questions about a job from people many of whom are just fishing for information.
I can see their point

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will have to send the documents by 'snail mail' which is something I have not done for a long time.
Aside from the venerable Neil McBeath, who seems to possess a similar authority and understanding of Oman, as Scot47 does with Saudi, are there others who work for SQU, who might express their opinions of the place, or other Universities or Colleges in Oman?
My current aim is to work in Saudi for a year or two, and then move to Oman, but failing to get a Saudi post would spur me to apply for a post in Oman next September, 2008. The recruitment process for many Omani positions seems to be dominated by one individual, whom many of you are familiar with. I would prefer to bypass the recruiters.

If you wish to bypass recruiters in Oman, SQU is probably your best choice for a university level job.

If you were able to email in your application, someone already there likely provided you with the address of a contact person or perhaps in the past they took email applications. They do not provide it on their website now and state that all applications must be mailed.

CFBT are currently trying to recruit teachers for the higher colleges in Ibri and Nizwa in central Oman. They are offering 1,000 Omani riyals a month + free accommodation. |

This naturally depends on your education and credentials... and whether you are talking internationals schools, language schools or universities. It could range from about 700 to 1200 OR, but you also need to look at benefit packages.
