My plan is to head to the UAE (hopefully Al Ain as I already know a few people there) in January. I have a Bachelor of Education plus 5 years teaching experience in NZ (9-11 year olds). I have also been the sport coordinator at my school for 4 years but not sure if this will have any relevance when applying for jobs. I would like to know what kind of job opportunities there are at that time of the year, what kind of salary I could expect plus any other helpful information. Ideally, I would like to teach kids between 8-12 years old ish. |

You're a good candidate to teach in an international school w/ your credentials and experience. I would expect a minimum monthly salary of 8000/dirhams plus provided accommodation or an accommodation allowance. I would strongly recommend that you look for work from NZ rather than heading to Al Ain looking for work. Few schools will be hiring in January unless they've experienced a surge in enrolment or perhaps a teacher or two have done a runner. Keep your eye on the TES job site. I've noticed the Al Ain English Speaking School has been advertising for many positions recently...any chance you can head out now rather than in January? |

Thanks for the info. Nope, there is no way I can leave NZ before 20 Dec this year as thats when our school year finishes. Despite the fact that there are numerous students in my current class with severe behaviour needs, I just cant desert them now!! I have been dealing with a recruitment agency but perhaps should look at others too. TES you say? |

Yep-keep your eye on the TES-updates every Friday. There are not too many emp. opps in Al Ain in terms of primary teaching...mid-year you'd be more likely to find something in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. You might consider applying emailing about those posts Al Ain Eng. Speaking School is advertising and see if they can wait. |

Al Ain English Speaking School, Emirates International School, Emirates Private School, Al Dhafra - just try. Sanawbar School seems to be on the down. American Private School is newly opened, it has a big poster outside which says 'foreign teachers' in huge letters, why do I find that dodgy?
If you are qualified and experinced you won't want to go near Choueifat though... |
