I joined it, and quickly came to see that for China that "3,000 USD" is 3,000 RMB- 9,000 RMB tops. The 3,000 USD is for the Middle East.
I also have a problem(shyness?)with putting your photo and personal info for all to see; I'm not at ease with that, as I think it has little to do with teaching, especially the photo bit.
Maybe I should have looked for the site that was called "Serious Jobs"...we know there are lots and lots of serious teachers out there in cyberland.
Cheers folks |

The pros and cons, rights and wrongs of asking for a photo from the school, have been discussed a lot?
Are you saying that on this site you had to post publically your picture, not just send it to the school?
I think not!
And that it was the "serious teacher" web site that wanted this? Send me the URL or post here, should be a goof! |

Got two job offers via e-mail already. One is 6,000 RMB in Hong Kong....sounds pretty sweet. I can see me shopping every weekend The other one is teaching IELTS for 5000 a month, which in no way bothers me when I used to make 40,000 a month 6-7 years ago I would've gotten right on it except the starting date is(WAS) early August...they or I must have slow software |

I was a serious teacher. I became a disgruntled serious teacher when I found that slackers were earning the same as me. I became even more disgruntled when fresh off the boat tyoes got the same.
Then I left.
CHina, do you miss me? |

I just looked at this and it seems like a newbie advice column for those trying to break into the market. I got the sense most are NOT Native Speakers, hold a degree , or have real ESL qualifications.
I didn't look at ALL of it and couldn't read or post to forums unless I joined w/picture.
It looks like it is full of those trying to find a way into the market or to get into specific areas of interest.
I would NOT post a picture, the picture is supposed to give it a professional look. How many pictures did you see a gf/bf or even an old BF blacked out? Not very professional if you ask me.
If you post your picture and a diatribe about how F'up your host country and work place is, well with the picture it is easy to track you down. Argue with a "loose-screw" fellow FT over qualifications (I've seen this) invites a stalker to try to get you fired or worse.
The other purpose of the picture is to show potential employers how "White" you look and how well you would fit/enhance the window dressing for some McMill job. $$$
Dump the picture requirement, or make it optional, I feel would attract a wider range of posters.
Again, I only saw the first few pages because to go deeper to evaluate, I would be required to join.
For jobs, the same low paying jobs and rip-off outfits that are found on other ESL sites.
The layout is interesting though. |

ESL,or for you Brits EFL. |
ESL = English as a Second Language. A non native speaking English learner residing in a country in which the primary language is English, is an ESL student.
EFL = English as a Foreign Language. A non native speaking English learner residing in a country in which the primary language is not English, is an EFL student.
An ESL student is immersed in an English language environment, an EFL student is not. Different teaching methods should be used.
A suitable analogy might be teaching someone to drive. An ESL student is taught to drive a car with the benefit of having a car to practice driving every day. An EFL student is taught the theory of driving a car in anticipation of one day actually having a car to drive. |

Ahhhh, here's a gem for the "serious teacher": The salary is 4500 RMB!! Why that is almost 150 smackers a week, but there is more. 1000 RMB for medical expenses...hopefully no need for serious medical attention, just the need for a serious teacher |

Just a point of clarification about the personal picture on Serious Teachers. It is OPTIONAL. You may join the site without your picture. Simply disregard their statement ".....it is very important to post your picture......." |

Good, I might join.
I thought the picture rule was odd, I guess I didn't read everything when I did a quick look.
Thanks for the clarification. |

I also just joined.
Thnx W.W.
Regarding Photo...if you don't want yr foto on the Public Board, then you can choose NOT to post it. But then when you apply for a specific job, you can then send the foto if you so desire.
I Posted my foto w/C.V.
Actually, it's now on the front page!
Serious Teachers has a good concept.
For the lazy serious teachers, they have a self-description in which folks can just fill in the blanks!!!
I notice that many of the serious teachers choose that grammatically correct option. |

Why the problem with the photo? I posted mine with a solid resume and got several expressions of interest within a few days, and I'm still getting them weeks later. I actually grabbed one offer (7,500 RMB at one of Wuhan's better universities) and am happier than a pig in poop. Worked for me. |
