I'm getting ready to leave Spain and have a number of books in English that I'd like to donate. Most are novels or collections of short stories, though I also have a number of ELT books as well. All are in excellent condition. I also have a 2 or 3 sets of ELT course books (for students) have I've never used. (They were samples from the publisher.) Any suggestions for places where I can donate this material? I'm based in Madrid, by the way.

Thanks,

JR

Why don't you try the US consulate? They helped me get some books mailed from the US to Tomsk so there may well be somebody there who is connected to a library.

Or you can probably take them down to the local public library. I know that in Valencia the library had a couple of shelves of books in English. I am currently living back in Fresno while I recharge my batteries (mis pilas?) and the local library would welcome books in Spanish and Russian both.

Or if you don't want to do that, there was a store in Barcelona up around Ramblas de Catalunya that specialized in books in English and ESL stuff. I bet you could probably get a similar place treed up somewhere in Madrid. Put them in a box out side the front door with a note saying "Baby, I'm yours!" and I have little doubt they would find a home OK.

You can always sell them at "J and Js Books and Coffee" (calle Espiritu Santo, nr. Noviciado metro) who always buy any decent English books and then donate the money to whatever worthy cause you like.
