Yet to be paid by Nova today. Just spoke to the payroll section and they said around 2 or 3pm today.

It was an unusual call in that the lady spoke very poor English, there are many gaijin who work in that section I wonder where they all are.

Also, I had to give my number and branch before they would tell me anything. The last time I called because of a delayed payment I didn't have to do this.

I wonder if by the time I start my shift today we will have been paid.

i'm glad someone on dave's has mentioned this. there seems to be a conspicuous silence about it here.

It's probably a collective holding of breath.

Gosh, that's awful that it's being delayed.

I sure hope the teachers get paid sooner.

From what I heard from a person close to the source - MM instructors and those in Osaka and Tokyo will be paid today (and have been as of 12pm, MM instructors at least). Other instructors will be paid in a staggered fashion with the last to be finalised by Tuesday next week (but this isn't certain). Titled Instructors and up have to wait until Wednesday next week for their pay. Priority was placed on the MM instructors because they can cover lessons anywhere in Japan if teachers in the branches catch a sudden case of the 'blueflu' via Toppatsu lessons. If the MM instructors hadn't been paid first it would have been game over for Nova.

It's also illegal. If it happens twice, you may officially go and collect unemployment insurance from Hello Work. Good luck!

I can confirm this. The priority was and is MM>Osaka>Tokyo>Other cities>The rest>Titled Instructors. I know MM and Osaka instructors have been paid, can anyone confirm whether or not Tokyo instructors have?

What is a titled instructor, and why are they last priority?

i'm due to go over to japan next week... just got a call from the TO nova office, and they mentioned that things are mighty unstable/there is a delay in payday. they are now calling all people going over in the next few weeks and giving them the option of postponing, withdrawing, or still going over. not sure what i'm going to do... i don't want to get there and not have a job or a paycheck! ahhh

Man am I glad I'm not there anymore! But all this sux for the people at Nova, and they've hired a ton of newbies...my friend in the states said she is coming over with them this Thanksgiving. How can they keep hiring, if they can't pay the teachers they have now? Confused

I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way but Nova is really a sinking ship. This year was terrible for Nova, many things happened and now they are going down big time. Where I work we have already issued statements reassuring students that we're not going down like they are.

If you are someone who recently got hired by Nova I would really be weary. Honestly look for another job with ECC, Geos, Aeon, etc... Nova isn't going to be around long term.

Good luck

No, but you are taking a risk. If you're in a position to survive that risk and have sufficient motivation to come over despite that risk then do it. There really isn't any more information out there than what others have said on this thread. Nova isn't going to close tomorrow, but the prospects aren't great.

Come, but do look out for other jobs. You already have the visa. Do you have any qualifications/experience? Do you have at least $3-4000 to keep you afloat?

If no, you might be competing against 1000/odd people who do at least have some experience (even if it's 'only' Nova) and who have recently quit because they haven't been paid yet or are worried about not receiving any salary at all next month.

I also heard that those who haven't been paid yet won't see any cash at all, but that's a rumor at best.

So, up to you really! I recommend coming over, treat it as a holiday and if you can find something within the first two weeks, then great! If not, better go home.

Sorry about the bad news..
