Anyone know of any temporary summer ESL jobs in the Middle East? I am a teacher in the States but want to go overseas next summer to teach during my break. Can't seem to find anything via an internet search. I would particularly love something in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon or Egypt. Thanks in advance for any responses.

I've seen some programmes in Oman...can't recall the employers. Summer work in Egypt is not likely. International schools are hiring their own to do summer school classes. Regular old eSOL classes are near impossible to find (british council being the exception)...perhaps some classes at Amideast.

The British Council often has short term summer jobs but it's very early for them to be advertising.

Your best bet might be to email schools and ask if they have/will have any vacancies although many are now more concerned about the start of the new academic year and haven't given next summer a thought yet!

I believe that my employer, CfBT (Center for British Teachers), has summer classes at its office in Muscat. It is way too early to see them advertised, though.

I have never heard of any vacancies in the Levant or the Gulf for teachers for summer courses. And I have been here on and off since 1970.

There are very few and they are almost always filled by local hire.

Yes, definitely try the British Council. The BC in Amman and Beirut have in the recent past taken on summer teachers, and it's very likely that the same would go for Cairo/Heliopolis and Damascus.

You might also try International House schools.

Good luck!

The British Council was advertising this year for summer school teachers for Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Syria and several other countries. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do the same next year. It's way too early yet, but come next spring, check out www.britishcouncil.org/teacherrecruitment. You'll need a CELTA and two years' experience.

Flatcapped, This is entirely personal, but have you actually arrived in Oman yet?

Good. See if you can get in touch with me. People at AFTC know my phone number.
