|
|
Hi-I'm about to start the process of looking around for a winter/spring start job in Harbin.
I know it's too early for school to advertise, but I want to do my homework first. I've been combing the boards pretty regularly.
Does anyone know of any great schools in Harbin, either through experience or a friend? Also, anything horrible to avoid?
It might be a little tougher for me as I don't have a degree. I do have TEFL, experience and good references.
Thanks for any help |

Heh heh heh, the last time anyone posted an extremely positive review on a school in Harbin during job-seeking months, a member lost a great job offer after some scum bag lurking around read the review and went into the school and accepted the position for a lower salary. The job's location? Harbin. That member? Me.
Do a search on "harbin" and "haerbin" and read any and every thread, then come back here and ask questions. Oh yes, it's not too early to start sending resumes now. My rule has always been: right after the May/October 1 holidays. It gives you plenty of time to pick and choose, not to mention plenty of time to find an emergency replacement should the job offer falls through.
BTW, having no degree will not hinder your chances of finding employment in Dongbei (especially Jilin and Heilongjiang), though it may definitely limit the quality and quantity of the job offers. |

Thanks, TW for the useful info.
I have been doing extensive reading up on the forums, now I will just be a little sharper about it. Just hoping if anybody has anything awful to say a school that hasn't been before I might have them bring it up.
And if were to find anything useful to report back, I would happily share. |

Check out posts by hewlettpac. He had some problems with his school in Harbin when he was working there. Here is a thread on a bad company if you haven't read it yet: http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=49537 |

Never been to Harbin m'self, but just wanted to use this space to make a small observation. There just ain't that many good jobs out there, even for the frozen chosen in the Dongbei. You just ain't gonna get th'answer ya want if ya askit like that.
It would seem the way to get a decent (won't say good) job is to get a half-decent job and spend a year or more paying your dues, scouting the town, making contacts and angling for position on one of the better jobs. If you're a good teacher; well prepared, energetic and professional in your approach, you'll become better known and something better will turn up.
Where oh where do people get the idea that sweet, well-paying jobs are just hangin' from trees waiting to be picked? Nowhere I know of, and not in China. |

Be sure to bring an XXL Dongbei Army jacket for those cold winters
I had mine custom made from the factory, it was XXXXXL = 5X
About the size of a 2XL USA coat.
I have matching PLA rabbit hat with red star too |

As one who was involved in poor TW's debacle over Harbin schools, I would agreed with his advice -- and that of many of the other posters.
I might offer you advice from a negative perspective -- some schools to avoid. Put Harbin Star College at the top of your list, and follow that with Heng Feng and a few others. Be extremely wary of Harbin Normal University. Other than that, enjoy a great city.

Thanks,
I've seen the Heng Feng horror stories.
I actually had a few emails with them. Even the messages seemed sketchy. |
