Hi all

So that's me: 42yo English guy with a PGCE, BA English & 7 years' EFL experience who much prefers to teach adults than kids. Just leaving Poland, never worked in Asia at all.

I've got an interview with a company (young adults and Business English) tomorrow, based in Jakarta, paying 8.1mill plus free accommodation, meals, gym membership, free return flight. The company sounds nice enough, but am I selling myself short here?

Cheers.
J.

Yes. The salary is laughable. If you can stretch 'adults' to senior high school age then you should apply to one of the international schools and get at least 3 times the salary.

Good grief. You can earn almost double that just from some language schools. With your qualifications and experience, you should try an international school. If it's the UK PGCE, try the British International School but any of the like in Jakarta would be great. 8 mil is shocking

Well, that's clear enough! Thanks.

But is it possible to earn decent cash exclusively at the post 16 level? (I also have an interview with Wall Street Institute coming up).

Thanks for your time, all.

You better ask Wall Street about that, because they are one of the very few EXCLUSIVELY post 16 ESL school that I know. Depends what you call decent cash of course. There are lotsa posts about salary here, up to date too.

Why not an International school, or a national plus? Sick of the teens?

I think the answer to this is a straightforward no. You could work as a DOS in a language mill and earn around 18m. (I think)

If you work in an international school you could earn 25 - 40m with your qualifications (depending on the school and how you negotiate.) You will not get that in any language mill but the pay is appropriate for the work you would do.
