|
|
Hello everyone,
I have posted here before about traveling to Mexico to become an ESL instructor. I am still undecided if I want to teach adults or K-12. I am thinking about returning around June of 2010. My concern is that I would like to arrive at a time when preparatorias or colegios typically look for English teachers. Would June be a good time to arrive and search for a job? I would really appreciate your input. Thanks! |

I've actually considered arriving early/mid-December
to catch the 2nd semester wave starting in January.
I have contacted a few institutions but know that I need
to be physically present to make an 'impression'.
Shopping around for a position at this time makes
sense, no? I imagine my opps are better than just showing
up after the holidays.
I primarily have made contacts in Jalisco and Michoacan.
Does anyone have experience with dropping in on these
dates to speak with places they've had email contact with?
Muchas gracias |

Why would you say that June is hiring time? It's not when the summer is ending and the new school year is beginning?
Do you think it would be the same kind of "hiring season" throughout mexico ? if not, when is guadalajara's?? (thats my destination) |

Let's be clear about this guys:
Language schools hire year round in all of Mexico as the need arises.
Same goes for business classes.
Colegios (K-12) teaching kids follow the SEP (Sec. of Public Education) calender and the SEP school year normally ends in early July and starts up again in late August. Many colegios start interviewing and hiring in late-May or June for the start of the new school year in late August.
There's often some spots open after the December vacation as some teachers don't return after getting their aguinaldos (X-mas bonus). There are also some positions open as teachers leave (quit or get sacked) throughout the school year, but nothing like the hiring frenzy in June and July.
Follow the link below to view the official SEP School Year Calender 2009-2010:

Thank you Prof.Gringo. So out of the three choices (businesses, language schools, y colegios), which would be ideal to start with? Which normally accept fresh teachers with no experience?
Hows this for a rough plan:
Attend a school like ITTO (Correct me if I'm wrong..but I have heard good things about them and they have guaranteed job placement) in Guadalajara during May, get out in the beginning of June, have the school help me by performing their magic with job searching, meanwhile search on my own as well...? |
