Hello.
New to the forum!! Looking for some more info on the TEFL courses...so thought this might be the correct place to start.
Simple questions really: Where did you study your TEFL/TESL/CELTA/TESOL (etc!!)? was it the certificate version, or degree?
Point me in the right direction if this thread has already been made |

Where would you like to teach?
There's another section to this board on teacher training, over at http://eslcafe.com/discussion/dz1/ |

Yeah, the answer to 'where I got mine' may have no relation to where you should get yours.
My own stock answer to this question on the teacher training forum is that, optimally, it's the best to do a 30-day on-site course in the country where you want to start teaching. Lots of good reasons: supervised teaching practice on real students (not a component of distance or on-line courses) is key for many reputable language schools.
While on a course, you can get your feet wet in the country/culture while still having a support system, as training centres normally arrange for housing while you're on the course and provide local orientation. Your practice teaching students will really be representative of the ones you'll be working with when you start. You can be sure your cert will be recognized by local schools, and your training centre can give you valuable contacts to which schools/housing agents/etc are reputable when you need to set out on your own. |
