Maybe a strange question, but when it comes to pickups is it at all normal for a Japanese woman to do a bit of an eye flicker to let you know she's interested? I seemed to observe this recently--or maybe she just had something in her eye! Though it did seem somehow...intentional.
(But that WOULD be forward for a Japanese woman, wouldn't it? ..Really don't know, haven't been here long..) |

You mean wink? Heck, most Japanese people I've met admit to being unable to wink!
If any Japanese woman did that, I'd definitely wonder about being so forward (unless she lived near an air base or is a regular at gaijin bars)... |

Sorry for the late follow-up..
Glenski -- unable to wink? I didn't know that.
No, it wasn't a wink, more like a twitch.. (maybe a Japanese person trying to wink??) I never saw it recur, though, so I don't think it was a tic or anything. Just this funny thing that really had me thinking..
Chollimaspeed -- nice. |

It is possible that the wink was intentional and not rehearsed in front of a mirror over several weeks. That is not regular behaviour and she may have been using the free time while one of her friends bought the Kirin beers.
Perhaps an extra in a play and the role required the girl to wink seductively across a crowded bar or library and she needed to get it down pat before the opening night that would be on Monday.
She may (if you wish) have seen something that intrigued her. It was well past Xmas and Tomoko made a conscious descision to wink twice.
But he is correct. Winking is not done by everybody and a bit of grit may have been in the eye or a smile is another way. |
