I have two schools in question. The first is Longre Education Group in Wuxi. The second is Meijia Language Center in Kunshan. I would apprecitate any information on either school. This will be my first teaching job in China. To tell the truth I really just need to get my feet wet. What I really care about is a proper working visa. One more question, should I believe any one when they say you'll get your z visa when you get here. It seems like I should have it in hand boarding the plane.

Do a search.. Anyone who tells you to come on a tourist visa is being irresponsible. Ask them if they will pay your trip to Hong Kong or for an expensive visa service company when the school fails to convert it.

There are two basic arguments regarding the Z visa before arrival question. Neither of them is right or wrong it depends on how they apply to your individual circumstances.

1. Arrive on a Z visa - you will be committed to a school you have never seen, perhaps in a city you have never been to, working for people you have never met, to live in accomodation that you have never seen. Yes you are guaranteed that you won't have problems getting a Z visa, but at what cost?

2. Arrive first and get your Z visa etc arranged later - you have the freedom to choose where you want to work after visting the school and the ability to negotiate the best deal as you can walk if you don't get what you want. However you have to accept the element of risk that the school may not actually be able to provide you with a Z visa which is why you should check this first.

In consideration of the above I recommend that no matter what you decide that you:

a. check out the school to make sure that they can legally obtain a Z visa for you;
b. confirm with present/past teachers that the school is a good one to work for and that legal documentation comes through as promised;
c. have access to enough money to tide you over should something unexpected happen
