I am currently teaching elsewhere in Jordan, but have spent some time in Amman. I like it overall, but it isn't like the other big cities in the Middle East (Damascus, Beirut, Cairo, etc), in that it isn't steeped in history and tradition. The city is car-crazy, really just a tangle of highways and very pedestrian unfriendly. However, because it is the center for a lot of diplomatic stuff in the Middle East, there are a lot of interesting cultural events (like film festivals) and a lot of expats doing interesting things. Also, Jordanians everywhere are incredibly friendly. |
