Hi everyone. I was just looking at teaching jobs in Taiwan and HESS came up, wondering if anyone can give me any feed back about HESS schools. I'm thinking of applying. Any advice on what schools to go through. Is it also possible to save in Taiwan...just a little bit? The country looks amazing.

Do a search for the word "hess", everything you want to know about it has been said several times over...

You can do something similar for the saving money concern, or you could just read through the last few pages of posts, tons of info in just the last 4-5 pages

Yes, you can definitely save money in Taiwan. Not a ton of money, but I'd say an average teacher saves about $5K (USD) a year. That's a very unscientific number! Some save much more, some none at all.
Most importantly, Taiwan (in my opinion) is a great place to live. People are friendly, it's safe and the food is good. Definitely challenging at times living in another country, but it's all about how you deal with culture shock, etc.

There is a lot of information about Hess on these message boards. You should also check out Reach To Teach and Dewey.

I got sucked into Hess a few years back! There is a reason they advertise so heavily, because they go thru people like flies. I started with a big class in August and 7 of us got sent to the same city. By Christmas, there was only one guy left. I lit out for greener pastures as well.

Hess sucks! It's a gimmicky school that's mostly interested in how many little butts they can put in seats!
