Hi all. I'm new here and can't figure out how to put a nifty picture for my profile. Confused

Could someone illustrate how to perform this seemingly simple task?

Sure. The pics next to your username are sometimes called avatars.

Just click on FAQ - How to add an avatar or post a photo

It's located right here at the top of the Newbie forum.

It walks you through the process step by step.

If you have any problems, let me know.

It's one of my specialties.

It would be nice to be able to click on the FAQ link above, but it doesn't work. Not for me, anyway. Been broken for a long time.

I think Glenski is talking about the blue FAQ link at the very very top of the forum.

I'm also getting a blank page when I click on that one.

Maybe it was out-of-date?

Nope, the FAQ thing just gives me a blank screen.

I have gone to avatar sites and tried putting in the link but it always just says it's not valid. Mad

However I did manage to add a swell quote by Robert Frost...

Congratulations! It feels good to finally get the hang of it. I'm sorry for not being clear enough about the location of the avatar FAQ. It's here on the Newbie forum, posted as a sticky - near the top of the forum. I noticed by right-clicking properties on your avatar that you reposted your avatar from another website. It's ok to do that, but website owners sometimes change the URLs of their images to prevent people from linking. Why? When you repost an image from somebody else's website, you're tapping into their bandwidth. If your avatar suddenly disappears without warning, that will be the reason for it. In the long run, it's probably a good idea to open your own photo storage page. There are several free services that allow you to store and hot-link photos. I've been using http://www.photobucket.com for a few years now and can recommend that one; there are more free services listed at the bottom of the FAQ.
