Which months can teachers expect to be off in schools or universities? What way do the semesters/trimesters/terms work?

September to June. Universities have a mid-semester break in February.
Semesters not terms, ie the year is divided into twop semesters. The unit of time is the smeseter rather than the academic year. In KSA there are also breaks for the religious holidays.
Why the inquiry ? Idle curiosity ? |

Thanks for the reply scot.
It's just that I may be working there in the future and want to consider planning holidays now.
So generally teachers are off for July and August? |

Schools have academic years. Private institutions (but not private universities) in KSA have academic years. Universities - private and public have semesters.
I am on holiday, if I am spared, in the year of Grace 2010, from the end of June to 25 September. Jealous ? Good !

That is generally true around the Gulf... give or take. These days, there are private universities that only give 5-6 weeks in the summer because of summer school. Other places you can leave the day after your exam scores are turned in and return the day before classes start... and be gone over 3 months. (even though your contract says two months). These are getting rarer unfortunately and it is all unofficial - and at places like KU, depends on your department.
At some universities the between semester break is in January. Eid breaks are longer in Saudi - up to a couple weeks or even more. In the rest of the Gulf, they are 3-10 days.

Are they Americans perchance? We are very lucky in this country if we get as much as two weeks in the average job...
Primary/Secondary teachers that get the summer off normally have another job that they do for the summer. The vast majority of ESL teachers at university level get -0- paid vacation (or any other benefits). So, they would consider a paid month vacation pretty grand. All is relative.
