|
|
Hey all, I have family friends living in Lima, and I am thinking about staying w/them and and teaching ESL.
I have experience teaching, a TESOL Cert, a Bachelors Degree.
My question is, where can I find a job before I arrive? I have NO money left, and need to have something set up.
Thanks so much! |

I would refer you to Naturegirl's wonderful Ultimate Peru List which you can find as a sticky at the top of the forum. It should answer most of your questions.
Briefly I would say that finding employment in advance of arrival will be quite difficult unless you have existing connections. You mention family already living in Peru, so possibly this will help your cause.
Come armed with lots of resumes and prepare to canvas. If you are looking for a job at a school or uni. refer to the list for the best times to apply and seek employment. For lang. institutes which usually hire year round, you should be able to locate work fairly quickly with your qualifications. Recall that pay will likely be smaller and hours less consistent. All this can vary, as Peru has a small ESL market compared to its SA neighbors.
I am looking to possibly return to Peru and hope to bring at least 1 months living costs with me after travel expenses. For me, this would be about 500 USD. I would recommend having a similar amount set aside for emergencies and other necessities. |

Try to get into a school, start looking now. ON the Ulimate Peru List, there are links for jobs in Peru and even some yahoo groups that you can join. If you come here, don-t think that you -ll be making lots of money, I-m in Korea for four months in order to make money, then will be going home to Peru. Are you Peruvian_ If you are, then you can legally find work, if not, be prepared to work under the table |

You'd haveto ask on the Korean board. I had a special arrangement with the school. |
