hey.
So.. i have a choice- Haiphong or Danang? Anyone there that can gimme a brief run down.. size,,things to do,, pace of life,, boring vs interesting-?? Anything really that give me a lil insight.
Im not looking for an ex pat community- not really the club type-prefer beach parties!
Im more up for a bit of relaxed yet vibey experience-with nice people- nature , beaches, but not a small assed town in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do- i think u understand.
Thanks sooooooooo much. I just returned from Tokyo(oh my god!!)- so will trace info if u fancy!

i wasd in danang, it was a shithole. i imagine it still is but it is near the hoi an beaches. all the beach paries will happen at nha trang. haiphong is close to cat ba island. there is a decent little beach resort town on that island and its right in halong bay. i miss vietnam. beijing sucks.

I've got a couple of friends working in Da Nang. From what they say, if you like the quiet life you will be very happy there.

Having been to both places, I'd have to call DaNang.
Both have their merits, Haiphong is obviously very close to Halong Bay and not too far from HaNoi, so geographically it beats DaNang, although DaNang also has some beautiful scenery nearby and of course the wonderfull town of Hoi An.

However, for me, DaNang had more of an exciting feel to it than Haiphong. DaNang is now pretty much VietNam's third major city, and I felt it had that feeling of a city on the up, with new enterprises being devoloped and people excited to see the futurer of their city.

This is, of course, just my opinion, and both are great places. Although I lived in Hanoi, I know people who were living in both Haiphong and DaNang, and they all fell in love with both places, so I'm not sure there's really a good and a bad decision in this one!

Good luck with making your mind up!.
