Hi...
I work in a government school with an idle-rich PTA
president who holds the teachers, and even the
principal in fear.
2 teachers have already quit.....
I dont want to understand Taiwanese money-power-
politics, or fix the situation......I just want to teach in another
high school without giving up the great government
school pay, vacations and benefits.
Please dont suggest I suck it up and live with it. This guy is
going to be there a long time. I'm 56, I want to enjoy my
final 5-10 years of teaching.
thanks

The answer to your question depends upon the specifics of your situation.
If you have a legitimate ARC with the school that you work at named on the ARC then you are 100% legal and will therefore be 100% bound by the law. The law states that you can leave an employer at anytime provided that you give at least 30 days notice if you are breaking your contract. It is best to give this notice in writing and somehow dated. If you have a penalty clause in your contract then you should expect to forfeit that money.
If have an ARC but the name of the employer on the ARC is another school or perhaps the agent who arranged the job then you are not working legally and you COULD involve the labor department by pointing out that you have found out that you are working illegally and don't want to continue doing so. You will get their support but there is always an element of risk that comes with the above. So even in that case I would treat it as a legal job and just give notice.
If you are working without an ARC then you are not working legally and are under no obligation to keep working there. You can freely walk away without the fear of being blacklisted, but you may find that you lose some unpaid salary.
You don't need to give a reason for quitting so best avoid the temptation to do so as it won't help but could hurt the situation.
Good luck! |
