Is there some kind of convenient website like craigslist for Taiwan (which, by the way has nothing posted on it) that I can use to communicate with other foreigners who are selling their scooters? Is the best way just to go to one of the many scooter shop/garages throughout Taiwan and risk getting cheated? I'm in the Taichung area and scooters are everywhere. What to do? Also I speak little/no Chinese.

In my opinion, foreigner's bikes are often over priced. New comers often don't know the value of such things and the vets often take advantage of this. Also, Foreigner's bikes are often not legally registered and often cannot be made legal.

Best option is to enlist the help of local staff where you work to locate you a good shop or someone seeling a scooter.

You might want to consider what kind of safety device to buy first so that once you have your scooter it wont get stolen. New bikes are all too frequently stolen to order.

I'm selling one in December if you're interested, but I'm close to Taipei.
PM me if you're interested and I can send you details.

go to websites like

www.tealit.com

www.forumosa.com

www.kaohsiungliving.com

all of them have different areas for foreigners who are buying and selling things, I know on Kaohsiung Living there are probably between 10-15 ads a week selling scooters...typically of the "illegal foreigner" variety, but at least they're not too expensive
