Hi Folks,
Ive just received a sample contract from the RGO and Im curious to know if anyone has had any experiences positive or negative regarding this employer.
Even after reading the sample contract several times and searching high and low on the net, the details I have are still a little ambiguous.
Im also yet to respond formally to the recruiter who Im dealing with because I have the impression that I already have all the information they have. I want to get as many facts as I can before I respond to ensure I give a good impression and get the best deal for myself and my fianc etc etc.

So.. wise ones any thoughts on the RGO and any thoughts on the following conditions:
RGO (Im assuming its the RGO technical college/school near Seeb)
1435 OR/month (this includes all allowances, except the arrival bonus/loan)
7am-2pm work day, flights, insurance etc inc. Also, I'm not sure if they will sponsor my fiance's visa...

thanks in advance for any advice.

The chances are that you'll be working at the RGO Technical Boys' School, which is more like a junior Technical College. RGO is not part of the Sultan's Armed Forces (Ministry of Defence). RGO come under the Diwan of Royal Court Affairs and so they are completely safe as an employer.

I worked with a man in Saudi who had been at the Technical School, and he had enjoyed it. The English section, I believe, is fairly small - so IF you get on with your colleagues, there's nothing to worry about. If not.....

The salary is quite good for Oman, but the fall in the dollar has cut the exchange value of the salary by 5% in the last year. RGO will provide you with accommodation, but I can't advise you about the standard. Seeb was hit pretty badly by Cyclone Gonu, and there's still quite a bit of clearing up going on.

I very much doubt if they will pay for a fiancee's visa. A wife would be different, but even then, there's no obligation for them to pay for a visa if you are on a single status contract. (I can't speak for RGO, but the Sultan's Armed Forces have become increasing fed up with expatriates who accept single status contracts, and then ship in wives AND children and try to keep them in country on a semi-permanent basis)

Your fiancee's visa will not be sponsored. You will not be able to sponser her either as a resident. Co-habitation if very discreet can be achieved. However, be advised if you tick the wrong person off (and it doesn't have to be something major, any triviality may set that person off) you may be reported, both charged with adultery, jailed, possibly flogged, and deported.

Has cohabiting been done successfully, yes. But you have to fly under the radar and be aware of the possibly severe consequences. Oman is a very tolerant society, but authorities will act if a complaint is filed.
