As far as I know, if you hold a British or an American driving license you can apply for a Saudi driving license without doing the test. I do not know about Italian driving license, you have to check with the traffic police in Saudi Arabia. The other option for your husband is to check if he could convert his Italian driving license into a British one? At least, it is accepted in Saudi Arabia for conversion into a saudi one.
BUT, sometimes they might not accept your British or American driving license if you are not a native speaker with blue/green eyes, white skin, and RED passport!
I know a friend of mine who holds a British licence and a RED passport, was refused the Saudi license and was asked to do a driving test. The reason was because he was a non-native speaker with coloured skin!!
And also it depends on the traffic police officer who handles your driving application!
What a shame!!! |

My husband is not blue/green eyed and does not have a red passport, but as an arab, he is quite good at the wasta business, so maybe we can sort something out. Thanks anyway. |

I have heard of cases both in KSA and UAE where the authorities insisted that driving l,icence and passport should be from the same jurisdiction. So a Jordanian passport and an Italian licence would not do the trick. Try the wasta ! |

One of lifes great pleasures is driving in KSA.
Make sure you get a big car with plenty of barge power.
If you can afford a hummer that would be your best bet! |

European Union licences, along with Canadian, US, Australian, Swiss and those of a few other countries, are accepted for driving licence purposes in KSA. While ignorance may play a part in some instances and some prejudiced policeman or official may even try to prevent you, the law is that as an Italian licence is an EU licence, you are thus entitled to a Saudi licence.
When going through the conversion process, it is much better to have a representative of your sponsor company do it for you, or at least accompany you.
Basically, it shouldn't be a problem. |
