I work in Korea now and have heard and experienced naught but bad from Korean women of datable age. It seems like they all have repressed anger issues that bubble up at the worst times. They also seem to lack "life skills" as in they can't take care of them selves. All they know how to do is study and act all princessy... hopefully this doesn't sound to cavalier.
I've heard Japanese women are similar.

Been with my wife for more than 10 years...and I'm still crazy about her. She doesn't have any of the quirks you mention. |

I agree 100% with your statements on Korean women. There's some serious 공주병 here. I love getting talked down to in banmal by some girl who thinks she's hot stuff, who's still living with her parents and has never held a job, but is two years older than me. Most of them are only interested in us for our money and as free English lessons (or English lessons who take them out to dinner). Even if you speak Korean, it isn't a guarantee that you'll do well -- I've done over 900 hours in the classroom and am in Yonsei University's Level 5, and still haven't landed myself a long-term Korean girlfriend (makes me question what use these lessons are).
It may be true that Japanese women are similar, BUT I've had much better luck with the ones I've known -- they actually bother to stay in touch, whereas the vast majority of Korean women are "perpetually busy" after the first one or two times you meet them (basically until they figure out you aren't made of money as hoped). At least with Japanese women, they aren't assuming instantly that we make more money than the average Japanese man, and they're not as interested in learning English, so if a Japanese woman comes onto you, it MAY be because she's interested in more than just language lessons and money. However, I haven't been in Japan save for a few days, and most of the Japanese women I've known have been the ones who live in Korea -- and as we all know, the people from a given country who travel abroad are always vastly different from those who stay home.
I wouldn't imagine that Taiwanese women are any more fun than Korean women. I mean, think about it -- Taiwan has a similar economy to Korea (so the Taiwanese women are looking for a man with more money, and when it turns out we aren't loaded, they'll lose interest) and Taiwan is essentially where all the conservative Chinese people who could get out of China settled -- people who are very much in favor of the "the man pays for the woman, treats her like royalty, and if he's lucky, MAYBE she'll marry him and bestow her greatness upon him."
I did read an interesting news article a few weeks ago, though. Some Taiwanese guy successfully divorced his wife and got a large settlement in court because after one year of marriage (which was done through a marriage broker in Taiwan, something the Koreans call a 중매인), she still wasn't sleeping with him. Does this sound familiar?
However, I haven't spent much time in Taiwan, either, so it's hard to tell. Don't worry though, bro, you're not the only one who's finding that Korean women don't live up to what the hagwon owners want us to believe before we come here.
Until you mentioned it, I hadn't thought about "repressed anger issues." However, it makes a lot of sense -- how on earth else could they justify to themselves the barbaric ways they treat us, like ditching us on restaurant dates when we're in the bathroom, making dates, not showing up, and giving false phone numbers, cheating on their boyfriends who have been conscripted into the military, etc?
I don't see why they're so angry, though. I mean, they don't have to go to the military, they get paid menstruation leave, the government is talking about instituting discounts at public swimming pools for menstruation time, and now, just like Japan, they are going to have special women's-only subway cars!
I disagree with the notion held by first-year English teachers that Korean women are treated like crap. I think it's the men who need to rise up in this society! |

Dude, you are clearly way out of your element discussing anything Taiwan. |

I was speculating, not claiming to have some kind of a PhD-qualified professional opinion. I used the phrase "I wouldn't imagine," not "I strongly assert." I HAVE been to Taiwan and HAVE known Taiwanese women, but if you feel my opinions are wrong, you're welcome to state yours. Please be civil about it. Does everyone on Dave's have to OWN everyone else? |

I repeat what I said. You are simply out of your element, where Taiwan and Taiwanese women are concerned, and obviously so. Nothing uncivil about it and I'm not intending to be. It's simply obvious to me, from having lived here as long as I have and having read your post-- and I stated as much in response. I'm not trying to "own" anyone, but you may want to reconsider trying to tell long term Taiwan residents about anything to do with Taiwan. |

Taiwanese women are fun if you like games. Difficult to find a real relationship there but Im sure it is possible though. |

Was I trying to do that? I was talking to chaz47. Is he a long-term Taiwan resident? Man, remind me to be just as territorial as you when talking about Hong Kong or Korea!
Congratulations. You won. I am leaving this thread, and you are allowed to reign supreme here! I'm man enough to admit that while I DO know about Korean women (the type the poster spent the majority of his post's text on) I don't know much about Taiwanese women, and I was speculating, and I said so and didn't try to be a charlatan about it.
I just have one suggestion. Instead of telling me "you are simply out of your element," which doesn't help the original poster, why don't you actually tell him about Taiwanese women? |

Rooster, you need to chill out man!
There sure seem to be a lot of angry people here
Here's what I think...
Korean women are hot, Japanese women are hot, Taiwanese women are hot.
Period. End of story.
This discussion should take all of 1 minute, before you guys come to your senses and stop complaining about a place in which 90 percent of the women are thin and have nice bodies.
Could be worse, you could be in the US, like I am right now, where 7 out of 10 women are either obese or overweight (by the way, there's scientific evidence to prove this, a recent BBC article comes to mind, not to mention peoples' own personal experiences).
I am inevitably going to receive a barrage of hate mail after this post and my obesity comment above, but I hope this message is taken in the spirit in which it was intended!

hahaha, I just love these blanket statements some of you guys are putting on an entire culture or group of people...
I hear the same stuff about Japanese women, Russian women, American women, etc. every day.
I totally hear where you guys are coming from though, sometimes it's tough being a guy, but you know what, ultimately it's awesome being a guy.
Before I moved to Japan I heard all kinds of horror stories about Japanese girls, and when I got there I realized this: in a country of 128 million people, there's bound to be some people you don't see eye to eye with, many people you get along with, and ultimately, there are girls who won't be your type, and girls there who would totally be your type.
It's a diverse world out there...and I'm afraid that blanket statements such as these will give people the wrong idea, both about you, and about the people you are trying to talk about.
How about discussing the good points of Taiwanese girls rather than what you perceive to be the bad?
Just my two cents' worth! |

It's human nature. People have a tendancy to categorize, compartmentalize and genralize. It's how we make sense of the world. Everyone does it - even you.

This reminds of the Bill Hicks bit on life being like an amusement ride.

The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question, is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride... And we... kill those people. |
Sendrigo, I agree with you! 90% of these girls are skinny with hot bodies! (many are too skinny, actually).
Also, it doesn't matter where you go. There are problems with women in any of these countries.
For me, I find Taiwanese women extremely immature. They act like children. Not to mention thair horrible sense of fashion (particularly compared to the Korean or Japanese girls)!
Korean women are hotter, and sexier. |

It very well may be human nature, or it may not be - that's not the issue.
Me wanting to pee is human nature, but I don't do it on the floor of my house, and I don't do it in the middle of a crowded store - I simply go to the toilet.
Someone can compartmentalize all he wants - the real issue is whether it's useful or productive for him to do so.
Every time I found myself generalizing in Japan, I almost immediately came across an example that proved me wrong. So I simply stopped generalizing, and that was the best move I ever made. Helped improve my quality of life heaps!

hahaha, I think I've read that quote before!
I don't think discussing the good and bad points of a place, or of a country, is a bad thing - it just seems to me that a lot of people on these message boards complain too much.
Again, I'd love to take all these guys who complain about Taiwanese or Japanese or Korean women and put them in small-town America, or even a large American city, where, as I said, almost all the women are overweight, people are nowhere near as friendly as in Taiwan or Japan, where you deal with people who will snap and go ape$&%$ on you in a second, and where you endure a 2 hour commute to go anywhere.
I think a couple of days spent even in an LA suburb will have these guys RUNNING to catch the next cab to LA Airport to get back to Taiwan or Korea.
Of course, I could be wrong...
THEN AGAIN...take a walk in Taipei 101 or Shibuya 109 and after your neck goes sore looking at hot chicks, you'll (the guys who complain, rather) be humming a different tune me thinks!
Miyazaki wrote: |

Glad you see it my way
Seriously though, a girl has to be REALLY skinny for me to say she is too skinny...I don't mind the thin girls at all! ha ha!
Miyazaki wrote: |

Yeah, that's spot on. I think we can find problems wherever we go, but it's a lot better if we find good things wherever we go!

That's a very interesting breakdown.
I personally think looks wise, Korean women might be the hottest of the three, but on the other hand, I find Chinese/Taiwanese women to be by far the friendliest and nicest of the three, and I have found it much more possible to have good conversations (yeah, I'm not THAT shallow) with them.
However, that's just my opinion!
About the immaturity, yeah, people said that about Japanese girls too, and that might even be true, but, again....really man, who cares???
It might just be that I don't make a big deal out of these things...everybody's got quirks about them, that's what makes life interesting.
I'll take all those immature girls that you guys don't want...provided they're skinny and hot. How's that sound? |

I don't know how any girl would know in the first date or two how much money you or I have. I would not just go and blow money on a woman unless I knew she like me for more than money.
Furthermore, most of the Korean women that I went on dates in the last six months before coming to Taiwan, I spoke Korean to. Of course I lived in Gwangju and there are not so many women there that can speak English. |

What is your point? Using a toilet to pee is not natural. It is a learned trait from society. People existed for thousands of years with out toilets. They went next to a tree or wherever. |

Of course I think that most of our opinions may be based on random luck since we cannot observe other people and how girls treat others. Maybe your personality or my personality is better for Korea or Taiwan. It is possible that different people have better luck in one of the countries due to their personality.
I lived in Korea for two years and have been in Taiwan for two months. I did not live in Seoul but I found Korean women under 30 difficult. I think women over thirty in Korea are easier to get along with. Maybe because it takes them that long to be themselves and stop trying to do what other Koreans think they should do. From what I have seen if you are a guy between 30 and 40 you have a better chance in Korea than 20 something guys trying to date 20 something Korean women.
Furthermore I don't think that this is something unique to Korea. Often women as well as men become more independent as they get older and are more likely to say f u c k you to society. I think that this is one problem in regards to dating Korean women in their twenties. Not so many of them are willing to go against society and develop a serious relationship with a foreigner. Of course some do and many men on here are married to Koreans. Those women are often the one's who have said f uc k you to Korean society just as some of the men on these forums don't really want to live in the west for numerous reasons.
Just my two cents. |
