I've gotten a job offer from a school in Madrid, the hours are great, the pay is wonderful, they'll get me a work visa and a visa for my husband and they throw in a free apartment.
Thing is, I can't find info about them. I think theyre' a new school since they say that their website isn't up and running yet.
It's supposedly an international school, but they say that they just need a native speaker, and if they don't have teaching experience that's ok. |

It sounds too good to be true. What's the name of the school? Take care! |

Lecel International School. However, they've said they'd get me a work visa, that must mean something, right? |

What makes me suspicious is the visa thing. Schools here simply don't need to offer visas as for such a well-paid job they could easily get an EU citizen, and even if they are ok with hiring people without papers, then why would they not just pick someone like that from the huge population of Americans, Canadians, Ozzies etc. working without papers who are already here and established in Madrid? That they are offering to get a visa for your husband also makes me a little worried - that kind of offer usually only comes from big multinationals or for highly qualified International School teachers who teach core subjects such as Mathematics where there is very heavy competition to land and keep teachers.
Still, there's no harm in carrying on with the application process, right? If it does turn out to be genuine, then it would be a sweet job. I say go for it, but be extremely wary about buying a ticket and upping sticks on the basis of that one, possibly dubious, job offer. Really hope it turns out to be real though

Agreed, but if I get offered the job, should I accept? |

Moore is right, NG. I worked there for three years and never heard of anyone getting free accommodation from a language school. That they'll accept applicants without teaching experience makes me smell a rat. If they ask you to pay a "processing fee", or ask for for your bank account details in advance, drop them immediately.
PS I've just seen their ad on eslemployment.com. It says they're looking for qualified teachers. It also says "The school provides a private furnished flat for the teachers." Sounds like you'd be sharing. |

Supposedly it's an international school. I saw their advert on esljobfeed.com and they emailed me, said the flat was for one person, had a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, sounds like a bedsit to me.

We need qualified, flexible English teachers. We are situated in the center of Madrid. Teaching position is available from the 15th of October 2007. No experience is actually needed (though preferred). We can offer full-time positions |

I'd suggest talking to them for a long time on the phone and not outlay any money yourself, up front, including money to process a visa. That's a scam. Hire someone for a great job but say they need to pay $50 to process the visa paperwork....(oh we need to be sure that you are sure, if you pay this we know you are sure, etc.)
My only red flag would be that they have absolutely no web presence at all. Just a Yahoo email address and the ads you've seen. |

They just sent me a written interview, so I guess I got accepted to the next stage. It's taken them about a week to answer my emails. I wrote to them two weeks ago, then they wrote to me asking for scans of all my docs, then they just sent me the written interview. They still need someone by October, so I just might end up in Spain soon. |

My girlfriend and i have been going through this exact same process with the same school. Written interview etc. They have been replying to us every Friday so who knows we might hear something today. We recieved an e-mail on wednesday congratulating us on being accepted to the school and could we send 900 euros each as a deposit on the accomodation to a Mr David Adam the financial director, i really hope no one has been sucked into this. The address seems to be real and so ive sent an e-mail asking if i can go and see the accomodation or at least have a phone number to contact the school on, needless to say there has been no reply. Does any one living in Madrid know the road in question and whether there is actually a school on it as unlikely as it seems. |

Oh, please. Guys....
no private language school can get you a work visa for Spain. They do not have influence over national hiring law. It's not an issue of 'if they want you enough, they will go through the hassle.' Even if they wanted to go through hassle, they would be turned down in the end. It's a NATIONAL law. The Spanish government officially considers that there are plenty of EU nationals available to fill the need (whether this is, in fact, the case is currently a moot point to the government).
As a previous poster mentioned, an international school hiring someone to teach a core subject like maths, where it is indeed difficult to find candidates with the skills and experience - that is an entirely different legal situation. |

hey, i think its the same scam some fake greek school tried to pull on me, the advert sounds the same.
youll prolly get an email saying something along these lines now that youve fill in the written interview:
Your application to Nadesia International School Greece has been finally accepted, congratulations!!Out of 98 people that applied for this job,you are among the 6 lucky people that are chosen.
Attached to this email is the Employment contract, you are kindly
requested to study it carefully,if you agree to the terms and conditions of the contract, then print it out, fill in your name(s) at the appropriate
spaces provided, sign and return it to the processing department of the
school.LUIS PINTO our finance director will be incharge of processing your visa/work permit requirements(for NON EUs)Contact him through this email address immediately:[email protected]
Due to the competitive nature of international job offers, most
candidates reject jobs after signing the contract for different reasons
like, getting another paid job somewhere else ,fear of being refused visa by the Embassy etc.
Based on the aforesaid, the school authorities held a meeting on the 18th of March 2006 and concluded after the meeting that :
1.The school will process teachers travelling/ working documents (for
those that require visa) and send the processed documents to the
individual through DHL courier service. The reason for this decision is to
ensure that all accepted candidates must obtain visa.
2.The Candidate must send some part of the accomodation fee as a guarantee that he/she must arrive to start work on the agreed date. Please note that the fee is refundable upon arrival. Both EU passport holders and non EUs should send half of the accomodation fee.
The total amount for one year accomodation provided for each of the accepted teachers is 3500 Euro, therefore, every accepted applicant must send 1500 euro for us to reserve his or her own accomodation,as soon as the teacher arrives, the money must be given back to him/her.
It is important to note that we have really spent much money to secure
and furnish the new teachers accomodation, therefore if you are truely
interested, dont hesitate to send part of the accomodation fee.As soon as we receive the refundable fee,we will send you a receipt as an evidence that you have completed all the requirements for the position,a copy of the receipt will also be included in the package to be sent to you through DHL courier service.
Therefore, you are kindly requested to send the sum of 1500 euro
immediately, in order to guarantee your accomodation .Remember that this money cannot be deducted from your first salary,it must be sent before we could proceed with other necessary arrangements for your
arrival, oncemore, the money will be reimbursed to you within 7 days of
arrival.
Payment details:
Address the payment to:
Receiver: LUIS PINTO
Nadesia Intl school
Partheno 14 Athens,
Attica 11722,Greece.
scammers suck, they get your hopes up then poop on your dreams. |
