Just curious, what's the best restuarant/bar/izakaya in your area? Why do you like the place? Is it the food, service, atmosphere? Names and locations please...

For me (all in Kanagawa):

Road and Sky Bar in Kanazawa Bunko (cool surfer owns it, chill atmosphere, cheap drinks, and good food)

Mike's in Higashi-Rinkan (really good margaritas and food)

Don's in Akiya (awesome view of Tateishi and good food)

The Colony in Hayama (great food, cute Obasan who helps me with my Japanese, good wine as well--overlooking the beach also)

What about you all????

There's a McDonald's and a KFC right next to each other, both delicious. Unfortunately ... I can't remember which station it is.

My last three years in Japan were spent in Chiba Prefecture. A decent Indian restaurant, and pretty good yakiniku place, but other than that, zzzzzzzz.
Being in close proximity to Tokyo was both a blessing and a curse, at times.

When I lived in Kitami, Hokkaido, there was actually a much better selection of great places to eat and drink. Best of which was Roots, a Jamaican restaurant. Kitami residents also claim their city has the highest # of yakiniku restaurants in Japan.

Ashikaga has a REALLY good (but very small) thai restaurant called Jak-u-jat (or something like that) it is very near to the JR station....Oishi!

for Mexican on the Odakyu line, el Bigote near Soubudai station, and another one not far from Odakyu-Sagamihara station have better Mexican food than Mike's.

Is Sobudai-Mae the place for good Mexican? I went to Pancho Villas the other night there, felt like I was back in San Diego...

But I thought Pancho Villa was better, except that it is small.

For good beer:

Osaka - Both branches of Beer Belly in Higobashi (Minoh beer and lots of other Japanese craft beers on tap)

Dolphins in Umeda (they have my favourite German beer.Only in bottles tho. If anyone knows of a good German beer bar with beer on tap, let me know)

Masamichi in Tamatskuri (more craft beer, cheaper than Beer Belly, and better food)

Artemis in Umeda (great pints of yona yona here)

Barley in Nishinomiya (great beer selection, no smoking, expensive food)

Yokohama :

Thrashzone (amazing beer, wonderful smoked food, great atmosphere and music)

Cheers (bigger than thrashzone, huge beer selection, great food..a little overpriced tho)

The Mexican place in Juso that I always forget the name of.

Fuu Fuu tei in Namba for gorging yourself on yakiniku

The takoyaki and oden place in Amemura

Satoyama in Umeda. Great organic buffet

Iseya yakitori - Kichijoji. The best Yakitoriya in Tokyo if not the world. Big, old, raucous, a little gritty, rude staff (by Japanese standards) and great tasting food and drink served at cheap price. Unbeatable.
I recommend the one next to Inokashira Park because it does gyoza and shumai. The one under the tracks at the other end of Lonlon is also a bit smaller - for the older folks.

Yona Yona, what is the name of the bar in Umeda, not far from Hankyu Umeda, with a huge selection of beer? I can't remember the name.

Hmm, not sure.
I know there is a bar called Captain Kangaroo
which is popular with foreigners. I think they have a lot of different bottled beers. I've never been there. Not sure if that is the one you mean.
There is a beer hall/ izakaya-ish place right by DD House called Beer Factory or something like that.
There is yet another place on the other side of the tracks called Drunk Bears.
Hopefully, you are thinking of a totally different place that I have yet to discover !!
