I've googled til I'm blue in the face. I'd rather just have a short answer from someone who has been there. If this question offends you, just ignore it. I'm not trying to start any drama.

My school is mailing my COE to me. I live on the east coast (of the US,) but am flying to Tokyo from Los Angeles. I'll be in LA for about three days. Once I take all my info to the Japanese consulate, how long does it take to receive my work visa? In other words, do I get it that same day, or will it take several days more? Just wondering, as I won't be there for more than a few days.

Depends entirely on the consulate and the workload they have. Phone them and explain the situation and ask: they'll have a better idea than anyone here.

I got my visa at the LA consulate last time. It took 2 or 3 days from the time I dropped off the C.O.E. and other paperwork, if I recall correctly.
