Okay Guy got me in the mood on the other site, it's not too early to make plans for a November get together.
This time in Veracruz, as some of us will be there for the MEXTESOL Convention Nov. 8 to 11th. There is a lower fee for the convention if you register before Oct. 15th so come on folks, get registered.

I'll be there. Who else should I count in?

But I can't be there, and I'm the one who wants to teach next year in Veracruz! Well then, those of you who go there can tell us all about the jarochos and the fish dishes and the TESOL conference. Let me know how cold the water is there in November, okay?

For selfish reasons, I'd like to know how many of you are going to go to Pto. Veracruz, so that you can send me back info here or by PM about the place. I went to MexConnect and not one of their current posters lives there!

Please let me know what the local ESL/EFL teachers say about teaching private lessons there. Thanks.

You should be able to set yourself up doing private lessons anywhere in Mexico. There are always people interested in learning English.

I'm staying at Hotel Suites Mediterraneo. It's about 400 yards from the convention site and about $20+ cheaper per night than those right around the site listed on MEXTESOL's website. I figure I can walk a little way to save that much money.

Heres a link with a few hotel options for Boca del Rio. Mediterraneo sounds like a good deal if the ratings showing are still available.

This site is outdated, but it has a map, descriptions and contact information for some hotels in lower price ranges. Once you are there you can quite likely find better deals nearby, maybe a block or two off the beaten path.

I'm paying $55USD a night for a double. I don't know if they have rooms still available, as I booked it last month.

I'm up for meeting with folks! I'll actually know a few people there, as some people from my uni in Mexico as well as my uni in the US will be there. I will also be presenting a couple of the speakers on Thursday, so I'll be easy to find. Smile

i used to practically live in veracruz on weekends. there's a cheap, somewhat dumpy place on avenida serdan, two blocks southeast of the zocalo, for about 180 per night. not great.
there's also a place right at the start of the malecon, across from burger king and oxxo (or is it mcdonald's?). it's about 280 and much nicer but still basic. i forget the name.
there's also hotel mar y tierra, at the other end of the boardwalk, which is much larger, much nicer, and a bit more expensive than the other two. i think it's close to 400 pesos for a single or double. sorry i can't be more specific. includes a not-bad rooftop pool (actually anyone can use the pool if they just ride the back elevator up to the 6th floor).
have a good time everyone!

I happened across these recent travel articles on Mexico. Here's the Veracruz link for those of you attending the conference.
