So, my contract ends in March; at that time we will have been here 15 months. We have switched jobs, been put here and there yadee yadee, but I am going with our first contract (mainly because we were like the last ones grandfathered into the "bonus at the end your contract" thing)...but also because that is the only one we ever actually signed.
Well, heres the problem. In the contract it says that you can not work in the area that the company is located for two years following the end of your contract. I have heard that this is an illegial clause, in fact I know of one person who got it removed before signing. I was somewhat worried about this when we signed on and I emailed my company about it and they told me it was no big deal (gave us the feeling that we would never want to go to another company again, like they were so awesome...at least that is how I felt). We had NO IDEA what to expect when we got to Japan and we never even imagined all the junk we would go through with our company after arriving. Now, we are both in good jobs (ALT) so we have nothing to complain about, but I dont really think I want to stay with the company I am with now. BUT my husband will be going to school here next year and I want to work in this area. I have asked my school about putting me as an ALT in this area but they dont have anything. I love where I am working now but it is about and hour away and we have to pay for half of our train fare. Next year we will have no money so we need to save wherever we can.
AND I have found a job that sounds like a dream come true (they will let me and my husband split one full time job and they are a christian company etc etc). I have meeth with them twice and I feel really good about it. The main office of the company is not in my city but they have a branch here. I would probaby be working both places.
SOOOO, what do you think? I will have to go againest the contract, there is almost no question of that BUT at the same time I feel like we deserve that bonus (they take cleaning money away for your apartment so we are almost just coming out even).
ok, I will reread this later, I have to get to class....]
ThNksss

Ignore it. They have no way to enforce it. Just tell them you resign and let it go at that. No reason to volunteer information about your future doings. If they ask, tell them you are uncertain.

If you saved the email, you have a straightforward "out".

If memory serves, you posted quite a few questions long before you set foot on Japanese soil. I recall answering quite a few. So, to say you had "no idea" is a slap in our faces. If you truly were clueless, who is to blame for not asking questions?

Why? Two people working seems like a beautiful opportunity to save, compared to what only one person could have made.

Yeah, I am pretty sure I have the email.
I did ask about that here, and yall are the ones that told me it was weird (I think) so that is why I emailed them. You have to know that you cant really understand something until you have experienced it yourself. And if you hear bad things about the jobs here you always feel like you will be the exception. I had lots of help here...but I never really knew how it is going to be until I actually did it myself.
We have saved lots of money...but that doesnt mean that I want to spend it...I really want to still save next year too (even though we will be living on one salary)...I have a weird obsession with saving money and I think that they only thing that I will ever willingly spend it on is medical bills for childbirth...So we have backup money if something happens, but I really dont want to have to depend on my savings....
Thanks for the reply...it helps alot.
Wink
