I have an adult student who studied at Wall Street English in the past and didn't like it, has no interest in continuing there, but would like to continue using their books. Is it possible to buy the books without signing up for their classes?
If anyone knows where I can procure some of the Wall Street books, please send me a PM.
Thanks..... |

It is my understanding that the books are used in conjunction with some software for their full-rounded training programs.
Therefore, you would be required to acquire their software packages too.. They operate using software based lessons with book materials to compliment those lessons.
The lessons are server based with a login and password so you do not actually get their complete program package to locally install on your computer. You logon with password for the lessons then use the books too. The Ft's follow your progress and must pass you onto the next module.
There are many different packages at Wall Street to purchase, but most of them are setup how I described above.
(This means their material is copywrited with local control and not often avail through normal channels)
= it is a little difficult to find their up to date training material on the open market.
Someone correct me if I am wrong and Wall Street has changed their standard SOP program. |

Okay, that sounds like what I had heard. But my student has a couple of the books, and each has an accompanying CD with some listening materials/recordings. From what I've seen, if I could get the books and CDs, I could teach him the content and find/design extra practice exercises that work with the book lessons. I don't think not having the interactive software would be an insurmountable barrier.
Right? Or has this changed and they no longer have anything at all on CD? My student's books are pretty old. |

Yes they come with a CD, but using the CD it directs real-time feed from the Wall Street server. So you can use the CD, and book, but some information needed is sent back from the wall street server to complete the lessons.
I am not sure how valuable the CD's and books are without the real-time download lesson support. Important parts might be missing.
I didn't tell you this but.... if I would you I would secure the CD and book from your student or a former Wall Street student and use as much as possible to create your own package.
Of course I'm probably going to be slammed now for suggesting copyright violations. I would use their materials as a reference to create your own program you can use in the future maybe even creating your own software lessons (if you're really enthused with programing skills)
It is my understanding that Wall Street is very protective of their materials and have mechanism to insure non-paying students cannot get much out of their CD's, and books.
It was developed this way with this in mind.
With this note: It was rumored that former FT's that took salary cuts or got cheated from Wall Street copied their materials or had access to their lesson base. This was back in 2006 when they started having problems, I am not sure now if this material is still floating around and security gaps were closed. |

I'm sure they also use software or online content to teach the material, but unless the actual dialogue recordings on the CDs are somehow security protected and literally can't be used without a password or access to the WSE server, then I don't care about the other software/server content. I'm perfectly capable of teaching the content myself and just using the texts and CDs as practice exercises/homework and listening materials, respectively.
Most of the beginner texts out there are incredibly immature (in terms of content), not business-focused, etc. So for mature adult students (especially execs or other successful, high-level people) they are just totally inappropriate. We've been using the first couple of WSE books/CDs (without the accompanying software or whatever WSE uses to actually teach it) so far, and I think it is working quite well. Their material is entertaining without being ridiculously immature and irrelevant to a successful adult. (Some of it is pretty silly, but it is better than most of what is out there on the beginner level.) And I do really like the fact that they use a wide variety of voices and accents in the recordings. Even if I can get the other WSE texts, I will still supplement with lots of other materials, but I wouldn't mind continuing with these texts, because my student seems to like them.
I completely understand what you're saying in terms of getting the texts. (I realize that they don't want to sell them to the general public and I will need to find them through other channels.) If anyone happens to have copies of any of the texts or CDs, please send me a PM.
Thanks.... |

They have some "good I've been told" business only language software that was used for those in the high-paying CEO type positions.
I am not in China right now, if I was I would talk to my Wall-Street contact and get some nore information about this. This might be the package you are looking for. |

it's quite common in china that students "would like to continue using books" of the school that they do not want to study in anymore...interests of those interesting students are really interesting, but forgive my point of view

cheers and beers to all |
