My boyfriend and I are leaving Japan in February and going travelling for a few months before setting up in Vietnam to teach.
Has anyone had any problems entering Thailand on a one-way ticket? any questions re visa?
I know travel agents have to tell you to purchase a return or onward ticket, but I have never had problems before - we entered both Ecuador and Japan on one way tickets and no one asked us anything!
Thanks

i entered thailand twice last year with a one way ticket, no questions asked. i do recommend that you dress nicely, act professional, and be super polite at immigration. technically you do have to have a round trip ticket but immigration seldom ever ckecks. i do understand however that immigration is cracking down a bit so don't take my experience as your sole source of info.

those that do get checked more frequently are the dirty, shabbily dressed backpackers. if you fall into this category then i highly recommend that you lose that image for a day and play the part of a professional upon entering thailand.

My friend came in without a return ticket three months ago, and was made to book an onward ticket before they would stamp her in. She had to use the internet in the transit lounge and her credit card.

I came in through the airport last week, and saw BIG signs warning that people without proof of onward journey would be refused entry.
Buy a train ticket or something.

I can almost guarantee they won't let you in.

(they used to not really care, but have recently become much stricter for some reason)

I arrived in Bangkok on 18/10/07 with a one-way ticket and a Non-Immigrant B visa and was not asked any questions at all.

It's at the discretion of the immigration official on duty when you walk through;

sometimes they ask to see a return ticket and sometimes they don't.

They don't check for non imm B visas.

The original posters said they were just visiting before heading off to Vietnam. In that case they would get a visa stamp on arrival. Which means they would have to have a return ticket.
I know they used to be much more complacent as Ken suggests, but from the signs I've seen, I would be very wary about coming in on a one way ticket without a proper non imm visa.

Yeh, I was certainly advised by the Thai Embassy in Canberra that if I wanted to enter on a one-way ticket, I should have an B visa.
