Hi all,
I am planning to come to Santiago in early February...I have a place to stay temporarily, but am wondering about the job market for teaching English. I have a college degree and a TEFL certificate from LCCoaching, and they are looking for work for me as well. What are my prospects?...I have heard that you really cannot find work until you get down there, and I suppose the end of February/beginning of March is a good time to look for work. I am not looking to get rich, but do want to enjoy myself down there, and I have heard of some of the schools to avoid...any suggestions?
Thanks...
Dave in Long Beach CA |

Check Nature Girl's list of institutes. Once you get here go around and apply in person. A lot of people are on holiday in february so don't expect too many classes. Networking is really important if you want to get private classes. Don't be shy, tell people that you're an English teacher and looking for students. Good luck! |

Thanks for that info. I am not expecting any, or much work, until March, but want to get an early start to get established, etc...
See you in Santiago...

Try the English Tutor. I know they are already looking for teachers for next year. They also pay $7,500/hour! |

I definitely wouldn't plan on teaching any classes at all in February...it's really a waste of time with how much work you get....you end up ruining your day with 1-2 hours of work when you'd be better off just taking the entire month off. |

That is really my plan...I am not expecting to teach in February at all, more just wanting to come down, get settled, do some exploring, and find a job for March....thanks for all the info! |
