From a few opinions I have seen and heard, some claim that it is actually better to simply work "under-the-table," and reside in Taiwan as a tourist or student. I realize that it gets expensive flying to Hong Kong every few months for visa purposes, but besides this, not having an ARC seems like it may have some advantages. Namely, if you get in with a bad employer who is sponsoring you, you are at their mercy, right? But if you do not have an ARC, there is not THAT much they can do to you if you decide to quit, right? Any opinions on the legal ramifications of this approach?

Hi Rob,
You may have missed some of the details but you have the general idea. What you have to remember is that the corrupt system on Taiwan is set up to work against you. The best way to beat that system is not to let it control you.

Please note that you can now do a visa run by taking a luxary cruise for one night around some of the more scenic islands around Taiwan.
From what I understand it is really a nice cruise currently going for 2600Nt per person.

Here is the info on Star Cruises in Taiwan, feel free to contact them or any major travel agent to book a ticket.
