I have some questions regarding police background checks and other document matters.

I have heard that police checks are done at the airport as you arrive, is this true? Or are teachers required to bring documentation of a check done from their home country? What's the deal there?

You may or may not have heard about the current frackus in Korea with this stuff, so I suspect many Korean veterans will be looking to Taiwan and elsewhere.

What about degree verification? How does it work there? Are transcripts all that is required or is there more to be done?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

cheers

Degree verification requires you to show your original diploma from your university.

Police check is not done at the airport, unless you mean that going through immigration they check to see if you're a terrorist or not. Going through the airport was one of the easiest experiences that I had coming to Taiwan. I found going to 7/11 in my first week more of a challenge than passing through immigration.

For long term stay visas, you need a police check dated and stamped by the police in your country.

Degrees may be copies if they are notorised by the trade counsel in your country, It used to be that all degrees had to be processed and stamped by the cultural/trade office in your country.

So for normal vsitors/work visa no need for police checks - degrees may be required to be stamped as above.

They do spot check degrees that I know, and I do know several fake degree holders expelled from the country for fraud.
