The annual migration of monarch butterflies has begun, and orange and black clouds of them are starting to appear in Michoacn. I just found an article about President Calderon's plans to keep them coming in future years, plans I hope are properly financed and carried out. In any event, here's the link to the story:

www.miamiherald.com/news/world/AP/story/320447.html

I hope to finally see them in person this year, or, most likely, early next year.

I went to Sierra Chincua at the beginning of this year with my parents. It was a lot colder than I had expected and because of that there wasnt much butterfly movement. However, t was still incredible to see them all clustered up in the trees.

El Rosario is the more well known of the two, but if I go back this year, I would go back to Sierra Chincua as I have to admit, my favourite part was horseback riding (and the fact that I actually had brief moments when I was able to gallop!). Plus, there is no way I could do the climb sin caballo and apparently El Rosario is more steep than Sierra Chincua.

I am hoping to go back again in the new year, but a little later. Hopefully the weather will be warmer and there will be more butterfly activity to view.

I went last year with my parents too. We went to the one closest to Zitacauro, which I think is El Rosario. The climib was very steep but well worth the trip. It was one of the most amazing natural phenomenons I have seen, and I have seen a lot!

I went to El Rosario this year (2007) in March. It was warm, so they were fluttering all around. Increble.
