Hi all, does anyone have an update on what sort of salary package is being offered by both SEAMEO & CEFALT in HCMC?
As a newbie, I'm also interested in receiving advice on whether these two schools are good places to work with plenty of hours.
Once bitten - and very hard - now a little cautious.
Cheers

As far as packages, I don't think that you are going to get one similar to any western job from either school. SEAMEO for sure. You work by the hour here in Vietnam at most places, and there are no packages. RMIT is an exception, but you are listing schools that primarily have language classes for foreign teachers.
As far as SEAMEO, if you have been in the country less than 6 months... I would look elsewhere. You will be taxed 25% of your income immediately for the entire period until your visa crosses that 6 month period. It is the law and they do follow it. Most schools don't. Good thing that they actually pay pack 15% after the 6 months is up. Not many teachers can take a 25% pay deduction fresh off the boat unless you came into Vietnam cash ready. |

Thanks Lizard for your views.
I have been in Vietnam for beyond 6 months and therefore the tax issue, which I was aware of from this site, will not impact on me. I still consider myself a newbie given that there's much to learn about working in Vn and if I can avoid getting ripped off again that would be good.
I'm interested to know what the going hourly rate is at SEAMEO and CEFALT - any idea?
Also, what is the minimum net $ per hour that a qualified teacher (Degree & TESOL) with experience (in Country) - who is committed to their work & presents ok, should accept in HCMC?
Cheers
